NWI Lions United & South Shore FC are excited to announce an alliance to create NWI Lions United East that will be based in Porter County!  See below for the press release and all the information.

The boards of the South Shore Select FC and Northwest Indiana Lions United believe together we can provide a clearer soccer pathway for Northwest Indiana and it’s communities; therefore, we are excited to announce the alliance of our two organizations!

The two clubs have been providing great soccer opportunities for Valparaiso and Northwest Indiana as a whole for several years. We strongly believe that as a joint organization we can better serve the communities of Northwest Indiana, opening opportunities to better align players with teams that fit their skill level, while also giving more options to players of all levels.

Going forward South Shore Select FC will be known by the new name of NWI Lions United East, and will continue to provide great local opportunities within Porter County. More specifically, trainings and games for our U-12 and below players will continue to be held at the same facilities South Shore Select FC has been utilizing, along with other facilities in Porter County. Our U-13 and up age groups will be a part of the NWI Lions United as well. They will be evaluated and placed on the appropriate team based on their skill level. Training and game locations will vary based on each teams geographic makeup and their coaches’ schedule, with the intention of optimizing practice and game locations. The new name will become fully effective for the Fall of 2019.

South Shore Select FC’s coaching staff will continue to work with NWI Lions United Eastteams. Steven Barnes will serve as the Director of Coaching for NWI Lions United East, along with his current coaching staff. The current NWI Lions United Director of Coaching and staff will work together with the East staff to provide a club wide curriculum to ensure each team and player are being trained to play at their highest levels.

With tryouts starting this week, all 2013-2008 players should plan to try out at their normal location.  They will then be assigned to an appropriate team based on the aforementioned criteria (geography and skill level). All players born 2007-2001 should plan to tryout at one of the NWI Lions United tryouts in Crown Point or Portage, you can view the tryout times, locations and register here.

The Valparaiso Soccer Club and Lady Vikings will remain separate from the newly formed NWI Lions United East organization. They will continue to operate independently, offering high quality recreational soccer programming to the Northwest Indiana community.

NWI Lions United Director of Coaching Mike Rance on the alliance “we are very excited about the opportunity to work with the South Shore Select FC players and staff and offer even more playing and training opportunities to the Porter County area.  Having more locations and more staff will allow NWI Lions UnitedEast to better help each of our players reach their goals.”

South Shore Select FC’s President Bob Magetti on the alliance “This is a great opportunity to bring our communities together to better support the collective growth of the youth soccer talent in Porter County. We look forward to developing this alliance and to working with the NWI Lions staff to offer a more comprehensive soccer curriculum from which our children will continue to benefit as our organization grows.”

If you have any questions about your new club, feel free to contact Steven Barnes southshorefcdoc@gmail.com or Mike Rance mike@nwilionsunited.com. Steven and Mike will be meeting with each team to further clarify and discuss opportunities for each age group.

More exciting information and details coming soon. We are looking forward to providing an enhanced soccer experience for Northwest Indiana and the communities currently serviced by both Clubs!
